Jaipur: The land of kings and lords of heritage
‘Jaipur is the
finest piece of jewelry ever created on Earth, where the king was the jeweler
and bricks were his gems’.
Home to over 3
million people, Jaipur is the Capital to the largest Indian state- Rajasthan.
The city is a standout amongst the most socially rich legacy of urban areas in
India and also the first planned city of India.
Jaipur has been
popularized with the name of Pink City because of the color of the stone
exclusively used for the construction of all the structures. In 1876, the Prince of Wales and Queen
Victoria visited India on a tour. Since pink denotes the color of hospitality,
Maharaja Ram Singh of Jaipur painted the whole city pink in color to welcome
the guests. The walled city, thereby
remains pink till date by the courtesy of the residents who’ve maintained it
this way for generations. The city is a noteworthy visitor goal in India
shaping a piece of the Golden Triangle.

It’s a haven to
get away from your daily life and enjoy a two-three day trip with your friends
and family that’s why I decided to take a break from the chaotic city of New
Delhi in which I live in. About 5 hours away from New Delhi, the city is home
to majestic royals with old-world charm surrounded by colorful markets and
beautiful attractions. This city is famous for its heritage and culture,
beautiful jewelry that you must have seen in many Bollywood movies like Jodha
Akbar,Manikarnika and many more or be it attractive handicrafts and the most
famous and delicious sweet, ghewar. Jaipur was planned based on the principles
of Vastushastra and ShilpaShastra. I got to see a number of heritage sites speaking
their hidden stories through the walls and art.
Tourist attractions incorporate the HawaMahal, JalMahal, City
Palace, Amer Fort, JantarMantar, Nahargarh Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Birla Mandir,
Galtaji, GovindDevJi Temple, Garh Ganesh Temple, MotiDungri Ganesh Temple,
Royal Gaitor cenotaphs, Sanghiji Jain sanctuary and the Jaipur Zoo. The Jantar Mantar observatory and Amer Fort are one of the World
Heritage Sites.
Amer Fort is the
principal location for tourist situated at high hills. You can get rides on
elephants on the road through the Suraj Pol (Sun gate). It is a magnificent
fort with key highlights like Diwaan-e-Aam and Diwaan-e-Khaas, the Sheesh Mahal
and the SukhNiwaas (SukhMandir). You can also enjoy light and sound show held
every evening.

If you are a sky
lover, just like me, then you must visit Nahargarh during sunrise and witness
the amazing and serene view. A stunning feature of this palace is the
MadhavendraBhawan that has 12 identical suites for the queens. The suites were
constructed in such a way that the Maharaja could visit any of the queen’s
rooms without the others finding out. You can also enjoy a quick bite at the
Padao Open Bar/Restaurant on the terrace of this palace whilst enjoying the
views of the city.

In the middle of the Man Sagar Lake,
Jalmahal is one of the peaceful sites in Jaipur. It showcases the Rajput style
of architecture on a grand scale. Though the palace appears to be single story,
but has actually four stories submerged into the river. It is a five-story
pyramidal formed landmark with 953 windows that ascents 15 meters (50 ft) from
its high base. Sisodiya Rani Bagh and KanakVrindavan are the real stops in
Jaipur. There is not much to do at the site apart from viewing the palace from
the banks of Lake Sagar, enjoying camel rides and relishing street food.

Jaipur has numerous conventional shops of
collectibles and handiworks. A portion of the specialties incorporate bandhani,
square printing, stone cutting and figure, tarkashi, zari, gota-patti, kinari
and zardozi, silver adornments, pearls, kundan, meenakari and gems, Lakh
kiChudiya (Maniharonkarasta), small scale compositions, blue stoneware, ivory
cutting and leather ware. One can find these shops in the walled sites in the
infamous bazaars of Jaipur, notably Baapu Bazaar, Johari Bazaar and ChaudaRaasta,
TripoliaBazzar, Purohitjikakatla, laljisaandkarasta, Raja Park.
