Best Indian Alternative Apps For Tiktok

In an unprecedented statement, the Indian government banned TikTok along with other 58 Chinese-made applications on Monday (29th June) alleging that they were "detrimental to India's sovereignty and independence, protection of India, state security, and public order.” So, in the wake of Anti-China sentiments and social media outrage against Chinese apps in India, several native apps have started to draw consumers migrating from these apps.

TikTok, developed by Bytedance, a Chinese company, allows users to post short videos that are generally set to music. It was undoubtedly the most common downloaded app on iOS and Android, followed by WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. TikTok had led worldwide installs back in 2019. The short-form video production app has gone from 1.5 billion downloads to over two billion downloads in less than half a year. India has become TikTok’s biggest operator, generating 611 million lifetime downloads so far, almost a third of total downloads of the app. However, consumers have been outraged at the objectionable content being spread on the app in the past few months, de-sensitizing issues like acid attacks, rape, animal abuse, suicide and more. People started backlashing TikTok on social media with hashtags like #TikTokBan, #TikTokExposed, and # UninstallTikTok and now the app has been finally banned in India.

Many are lauding the move, considering it as an opportunity for the homegrown apps, and a massive step towards the PM’s war cry of “Vocal for Local.”

Despite this, talent will prevail and users will find another alternative to this great music video app. Let us check out the best apps that are great alternatives to TikTok and available readily from the Android and iOS app store:

Chingari pays a content creator based on how viral the video becomes. The app claims to be more rewarding than the Chinese app TikTok, as creators on Chingari, get fame, as well as money for the content they upload. The app is available in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Bangla, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu.
